Orono Ski Farm- Growing up fast!

We have two Orono programs, Ski Farm (grades 2-8) meets twice weekly, Sunday 2-3:30 & Wednesday 6:30-7:30 and Sprouts (1st graders) meets on Sundays 2-3pm.

Orono Ski Farm - Elementary Age Skiers
Orono Ski Farm is a twice weekly Nordic ski program based on the extremely successful “ski play” model.
Program Details:

  • Program for children grades 2-8

  • Session begins January 7, 2024 and runs through March 3, 2024.

  • Meets twice weekly: Wednesdays from 6:30 - 7:30 pm and Sundays from 2:00 - 3:30 pm. (We hope that parents will take the opportunity to ski!)

  • Meet at the Orono High School ski shack.

  • Number of participants - 40 max.

  • Skis - We use waxable combi skis.

  • Cost is $110, this price includes the cost of ski farm ($50) + rentals ($60). PVSC membership is also required, but not included. (PVSC Membership is $28 for individual and $40 for families).

Sprouts Program for 1st graders
For the younger skiers in grade 1, Orono Ski Farm has a 1 afternoon/ week Nordic ski program based on the extremely successful “ski play” model.
 
Program Details:

  • Program for children in 1st grade.

  • Session begins January 7, 2024 and runs through March 3, 2024.

  • Meets on Sundays from 2:00-3:00pm. (We hope that parents will take the opportunity to ski the HS trails).

  • Meet at the Orono High School ski shack.

  • Number of participants 10 max.

  • Skis - We use waxable combi skis. 

  • Cost is $90, this price includes the cost of ski farm ($30) + rentals ($60). PVSC membership is also required but not included. (PVSC Membership is $28 for individual and $40 for families)

Sign-Up Steps

  1. Join PVSC at pvskiclub.org/shop (buy individual or family membership, PVSC Membership is $28 for individual and $40 for families).

  2. Go to PVSC Orono Ski Farm’s Ski registration page at https://www.skireg.com/orono-ski-farm and pay for ski farm and rentals.

  3. Ski pickup: Use the sign-up genius link in your Skireg confirmation email to make an appointment to get gear. Skiers need to attend to get appropriate size gear. Please pay PVSC membership and have your rental paid online before coming to the ski pickup. Ski pickup will be from November 12th-16th this year. 

  4. Ski return: Prior to April 1.

Penobscot Valley Ski Club membership is required for participation in these programs!

Hampden Trails

Penobscot Valley Ski Club will again work with the Reeds Brook Trails to groom trails for public use behind Reeds Brook Middle School in Hampden.

Goals for use of trails:

  • Have fun Nordic skiing!

  • Enjoy the snow and fresh air!

  • Get some healthy outdoor winter exercise!

  • Improve Nordic ski techniques – both classic and skate.

  • Possible weekend recreational group trips based on interest and snow conditions.

SKI Info and more!

  • Nordic skiing opportunities offered by PVSC (in Orono and Hampden) are open to all skiers regardless of residence.

  • Cross-country Nordic ski lease programs are open for high school skiers and racers, and we are offering rentals for kids in grade 8 and younger. The ski lease program provides xc skis, boots, and poles for the entire season.  Check here for more information on leasing Nordic skis!
